Trimontium Museum Wins A Scottish Thistle Award
Oct 12th 2023 | Frances Mann

At a glittering event in Dumfries on Thursday 5th October, Trimontium Museum won the Best Visitor Attraction accolade at the first ever South of Scotland Scottish Thistle Awards.

Despite being up against Dalscone Farm Park and the Devil’s Porridge Museum- two exceptional attractions – the Trimontium Team leapt to their feet with joy when Trimontium Museum was declared winners! The beautiful glass award -which was made by Holmes Glass in Selkirk – was given by Russel Griggs OBE, Chairperson of South of Scotland Enterprise.

The judges said they were impressed how quickly the Trimontium was transformed into a five-star visitor attraction, delivering exceptional standards of service, and using the latest technology to tell the story of the Roman and Iron Age in Scotland.

Trimontium was also a finalist in the Innovation in Tourism Award – which ultimately went to Dalscone Farm Park. The Devil’s Porridge Museum also picked up an award Celebrating Thriving Communities.

The Trimontium Museum now goes on to the National Finals on 1st December 2023, where other finalists include The Burrell Collection, Aberdeen Art Gallery and Camera Obscura. For more information on the Scottish Thistle Awards click here
