Come and discover the toys that Roman children played with, in the company of the famous Marcus the Medicus

SUNDAY 14 JUNE, 10:30 am – 4 pm

Marcus will introduce you to the world of Roman toys and games – not just those played by children, but by off-duty soldiers stuck at the frontier!

Did you know it is most likely that Board Games arrived in Britain with the Romans? Most available ‘Ancient’ games are based upon finds of boards and gaming pieces. The rules are ‘Modern’ best guesses as to how these games might have been played as unfortunately Romans did not leave us the rulebooks!

Marcus will be in the museum all day ready to show you the ropes!

Free with entry to the museum. Booking recommended

Marcus will also be at our Time Travellers Fun Day on 13th June.

Marcus is a retired GP and emergency medicine clinician, who now uses his experience to bring historical medicine and social life alive for all audiences through historical re-enactment. He has worked all over Roman Britain, but also travels forward in time to look at Pictish and medieval life.
