Trimontium Talk #13 : Treasure Trove – Ella Paul, TT Officer
Mar 2nd 2022 | Rob Longworth
A fascinating run though the Scottish Treasure Trove system for reporting archaeological finds and an update on recent local finds
Scotland’s Treasure Trove system is distinct among the legal frameworks that govern chance finds in the UK. All ownerless portable antiquities found in Scotland – from prehistoric flints to 18th century coins and much more – must be reported to the Treasure Trove Unit (TTU) and may be claimed and allocated to an accredited museum in Scotland. This talk introduces the history of Treasure Trove, the current system and team, and discusses some of the more recent finds from Melrose and the Scottish Borders.
