Samhain is the ancient Celtic festival which took place around the same time as modern-day Hallowe’en. So that makes it a perfect time to let the natives take over the museum for the day!

Join us for some Hallowe’en fun, the native way, at the Trimontium Museum. We’ve chased the Romans away so you can meet some of our Celtic cousins, learn about their Samhain traditions and how they influence modern day Hallowe’en customs. No pumpkins allowed- we use turnips (or bagies) to scare the ghosts away.
There will be Hallowe’en craft activities, costumed characters, and Celtic face painting.
On the Sunday, Nicola Agricola will be telling gruesome tales in the gallery from 11am. Come and hear tales of Celtic traditions and how we may recognise some of their ancient ways today.
Suitable for all the family
