The Romans are well known for their ostentatious feasts where they dined in lavishly furnished dining rooms, entertained by exuberantly dressed musicians and dancers. Culinary heights were created by world renowned chefs who used exotic ingredients from across the empire. The dishes were spiced with herbs and seasonings – the more unknown and expensive, the more sought-after the ingredients were.

What were these exotic foods? Which of these foods were brought to Britain by the Romans? Which foods do we still enjoy today? And which would turn our modern day stomachs?

In the company of your host, Vibia Sabina, come and indulge in a cornucopia of legumes, pulses, nuts, herbs, and fruits that the Romans loved, and brought to our shores.

But can you tell the ‘odd one out’ from her collection of foods? What item did the Romans not have available to create their delicious, unusual -and even crazy -recipes.If you can guess, there may even be a prize for you!

An audience with Vibia Sabina is included with entry to the museum and will be running throughout the day. Suitable for all the family.
