The Borders countryside teamed with Iron Age settlements, many of them enclosed, sometimes within impressive fortifications. But do we fully understand this pattern of settlement and what it tells us about the power struggles and relationships that existed before the coming of Rome? Strat Halliday, hillfort expert and one of the progenitors of the now-famous Hillfort Atlas, shares with us some of the key learning from his lifelong investigation of native settlement patterns in lowland Scotland.
