Join us for a great day of free events as part of Doors Open Day, Scottish Archaeology Month and Newstead Sundials Festival
Sunday 6th September: 12 noon – 5pm: Discover the Newstead Fort Site
Meet our volunteers at the entrance to the Fort site in Newstead, where we will be running short 30 minute guided tours of the Trimontium fort site. Tours will leave on the hour throughout the day. We will also have a working ballista on site so you can see its awesome firepower in action. The tours are suitable for all the family and are accessible to wheelchair users.
You can meet a Legionary, enjoy Roman Dance performances, and handle authentic artefacts!
In conjunction with the Newstead Sundials Festival, alongside other great activities including live music, medieval stage, market stalls, nature activities, children’s activities and more, all centred in and around the village. To find out more visit their Facebook page.
Sunday 6th September: 10am-4.30pm: Visit our Museum in Melrose
For one day only, we are offering free entry to the Trimontium Museum. There will be activities for all the family, including a chance to try on some great Roman armour. Visitors will also receive exclusive access to Hillfort Under Attack: The Battle for Burnswark VR Experience. Please ask at reception if you’d like to take part—they’ll let you know the timings. Availability is limited to 8 slots per screening.r screening).
The museum is fully accessible. We will also have crafts for the kids and costumed performers on site all day.
