New Publication – Assessing ancient conflict landscapes : the case of Burnswark hillfort

This fascinating paper, published in Conflict Archaeology provides a detailed examination of the conflict landscape that is the hillfort at Burnswark and the associated Roman encampments. This inspiring location in Southern Scotland, at the edge of the Roman Empire has been part of previous work by The Trust, which is analysed here in its wider context. The article concludes with the statement :
Be that may, the actions at Burnswark can be included in the long list of scenarios that witnessed a violent military conquest by the Roman state (Fernández-Götz and Roymans, 2024).
