Heroines of Heritage: Women of Romano-British Studies
The early days of Romano-British research are often associated with prominent male archaeologists such as Haverfield, Richmond, and Wheeler. Yet many female archaeologists also made vital contributions to the discipline, despite the significant cultural and professional barriers that stood in their way.
In this talk, Dr Tatiana Ivleva, Research Fellow at Newcastle University, and Rebecca Jones, Keeper of Scottish History and Archaeology at National Museums Scotland, explore the lives and achievements of these pioneering women and the impact they had on the study of Roman Britain.
Drawing on historical research and archival evidence, the speakers will examine the work of female archaeologists, researchers, and heritage professionals whose efforts helped shape the development of Romano-British studies. Their stories offer valuable insight into both the history of the discipline and the challenges faced by women working within it.
Join us for a fascinating exploration of the revolutionary activities of these true Heroines of Heritage and their lasting contribution to our understanding of Roman Britain.
