Trimontium Trust Talk Series : #4 – Trimontium 101 with Dr. John Reid
Apr 25th 2021 | Rob Longworth

This free talk is designed to give an overview of one hundred years of discovery at the great Roman Fort at Trimontium and its hinterland.

It will reveal some of the fascinating things we know about the site and touch on a few of the amazing mysteries still to unfold.

What do we really know about the largest and longest occupied Roman installation north of Hadrian’s Wall?

How much is fact, how much is educated guesswork and how much is pure fantasy?

What was it like to be an isolated frontier post and what trials and tribulations did its garrison face?

Who were its soldiers and camp followers, who were the people they dominated and how can we get to know them?

The talk will be richly illustrated and contain previously unseen aerial footage of Trimontium and the hillforts which surrounded it.
