SKILLS FOR SUCCESS LEARNING TRAINEESHIPS (MUSEUMS)

35 hours per week available (Temporary work placement– 12 months)

Live Borders is a not for profit, registered charity delivering leisure, cultural and sport services to all communities of the Scottish Borders and beyond. We are currently working in partnership with Museums Galleries Scotland to host 2 Learning Traineeships in our museums. One placement will be based in Hawick and the other will be split across Selkirk/Galashiels/Tweeddale museums and The Trimontium Museum in Melrose.

As a trainee you will:

-Spend one year on placement supporting a range of museum and gallery projects and learning core skills

-Undertake an SVQ3 in Museums and Galleries Practice

-Have access to a bespoke training programme – 10 one day courses in subjects including project planning, working with communities and collection care

-Receive a £15,000 tax-free bursary

You will assist with museum and art collections, help assemble exhibitions and be involved in education, interpretation, outreach and social media activities.  Your training will involve supporting teams and partner organisations within our area museums across the Scottish Borders.  You will help to develop social media activities to promote the service and encourage young people, tourists and local communities to engage with us.  We are looking for two trainees who love museums, art, history and culture.  This is an opportunity to gain skills while experiencing the exciting range of museum and gallery programmes Live Borders delivers. Trimontium Museum is currently delivering an important development project funded by Heritage Lottery. There will be opportunities to contribute to this exciting period of development.

We are looking for people with the following qualities: conscientious, positive attitude, self motivated, flexible, persistent, curious, creative, has the ability to learn, has the ability to collaborate.  You must also be able to demonstrate that you hold National 4 in English and Maths or equivalent, have transferable skills gained from volunteering, work experience, school activities or participating  in clubs or community activities, as well as good communication skills and a desire to work in museums.
