Join us either in person or online for our first of three talks in our autumn 2023 programme.
In this talk, Dr Alan Montgomery will share his experiences of researching and writing his recent book, Walking the Antonine Wall: A Journey from East to West Scotland, which charts his journey on foot along the 38-mile rampart constructed in the second century AD by the Romans to mark what would briefly become the northernmost limit of their vast empire.
He will discuss both the ancient and modern history of the Wall and describe his own encounters with the enigmatic remains of this Roman frontier, which have inspired myths and legends and intrigued and baffled generations of chroniclers, antiquarians and archaeologists.
New for Autumn 2023: Our talks will be available in person at our museum in Melrose, or online via Zoom. Pre booking is essential for all attendees via the link on this page.
Look out for further talks in November!
