Join us in person for the second of our autumn 2022 talks in the Corn Exchange Hall in Melrose. We will now host a Trimontium Mini Quiz Night for all followed by a talk by Trust chairman, Dr. John Reid

The quiz will be a light hearted challenge for all – bring your mobile phone (or tablet) and join in with our Trimontium Teasers.

This will be followed by the talk, The Peculiarities of Roman Artillery with Dr John Reid, Chairman of The Trimontium Trust.

In his own words: “Carved stone balls have been found on many Roman military sites throughout the empire.

These are usually interpreted as ballista balls but other interpretations are possible.

Recent work by our Chair on collections from the Antonine Wall, Hadrian’s Wall and Burnswark Hill throw some light on their function and context.

The presentation will also cover some of the peculiarities of Roman artillery.”

Please note that our original speaker is unable to attend.

Dr John Reid, Chairman of The Trimontium Trust
