To mark the Coronation of a new King, we look back at ancient royal Rome and how their traditions and ceremonies influence us in the modern world.

The acronym SPQR is deceptive. Throughout its history Rome was only occasionally a republic. It was first ruled by seven kings, several dictators and a long line of emperors. Royal Rome will look at its regal legacy from Romulus to King Charles the Third.

Alistair Moffat is a world renowned author and a son of the Scottish Borders. He is an award winning Writer, Historian and former Director of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Director of Programmes at Scottish Television. He is the founder of Borders Book Festival and Co-Chairman of The Great Tapestry Of Scotland. His books include ‘Scotland: a History from the Earliest Times’, ‘The Faded Map: The Lost Kingdoms of Scotland’, ‘The Wall: Rome’s Greatest Frontier’ and many many more.

The Trimontium Trust is delighted to welcome Alistair, a long time supporter of the Trust, to deliver this fascinating talk about Royal Rome

There is a bar available on the night, serving a variety of drinks. Why not make a night of it and book dinner at Marmion’s around the corner https://www.marmionsbrasserie.co.uk
