This is a family friendly, car-free, tarmac cycle route alongside one of the most important Roman sites in Britain.

Bring the whole family and cycle up the hill of doom, alongside the northern most amphitheatre in the Roman Empire, past the Fort site of TRIMONTIUM (the place of the three hills) to reach your destination at the site of the Ancient Bathhouse. As you Pedal into the Past look out for clues to complete your Roman Quiz then turn around and return to your start point enjoying the chance to roll down the Hill of Doom and then to inspect a selection of ancient Roman artefacts from previous excavations and fieldwalking of this fantastic site.

The cycle is on a closed, traffic-free, tarmac road, the Hill of Doom can be walked/pushed up, the rest of the route is level and the whole route is traffic free.

The route is a 1km long from start at the Leaderfoot Viaduct off the A68 (parking area) to the Bathhouse platform area, and then you turn and return to the start and the parking area.

Timings : allow 30 mins (minimum) to cycle the route (total 2km) and complete the trail.

WHY NOT : visit Trimontium Museum in Melrose (TD6 9PN) in the afternoon to complete your Roman Experience ?
